I love the flapjacks/paddles/kalanchoe. These are just a fantastic plant to enjoy in the garden. It brings such an interesting composure to the garden. When the paddle plant flowers it will die. It is what people refer to as mono-carpal. So what do you do with the plant after the flower has budded?
Well if you want you can pull it out and replace it. Or you can do what I recommend which is cut it down to soil level and leave the roots in the soil. In a week or so you will see more little paddle plants growing right out of the ground. In a clump and boy are they beautiful. The cycle starts all over again and it is just beautiful.
Also note that the snails love the paddle plants. So in the winter make sure you put some snail bait down around the base of the plant. I always recommend the pet safe snail bait that is white in color. The blue snail bait is extremely poisonous and I dont recommend using that one.
